Chores

A Willing Worker

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

Colossians 3:23-24

God loves a cheerful worker.

I know it’s hard to be cheerful when you’re working on unpleasant tasks, but it actually makes the time go a lot faster. Here are some ways to stay willing and cheerful when the chores attack.

  • Dwell on your favorite Bible verse
  • Sing along with the radio or your favorite playlist (especially Christian songs!)
  • Smile and laugh
  • Think of jokes, and, if you’re working with someone else, share them!
  • Make it fun!

All for God’s Glory

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

-1 Corinthians 10:31

This verse says to do it all for the glory of God. That means everything. Washing the dishes. Eating dinner. Walking the dog. Raking leaves. Doing homework. Not to mention going to school.

But how do we do these things for God’s glory?

One thing is that you should probably think about how you’re doing everything. Are you being grumpy, or are you being cheerful? Are you eager to serve, or are you reluctant to help? Are you complaining, or are you encouraging? One of the best ways to bring glory to God is to represent Him well with a good attitude. Sometimes chores aren’t that fun to do, but you should still do them with a good attitude and a willing heart.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

-Colossians 3:23

Challenge: Try to memorize Colossians 3:23 or 1 Corinthians 10:31. Work on applying these verses in your life, and try to have a good attitude.
