The Versatile Blogger Award

So I realized that I’d never accepted this award from the amazing icedmocha34. So… I’m doing that now. 😀

Seven Random Facts About Me

  1. I may seem like I have good comebacks and nice witty lines sometimes, but… ha-ha… yeah. It always takes me a long time to think of those, usually a week or two afterwards. Although there is the occassional one that actually works out.
  2. My room is a graveyard. A graveyard of unfinished projects that
  3. I can’t resist a chance to make someone laugh. (As if you couldn’t tell by my comparing my room to a graveyard and then not finishing the sentence about unfinished projects…)
  4. I seem to use “…” a lot at the end of sentences… I guess my thoughts tend to trail off. Go ahead. Count every time I do that in this post. And comments. And e-mails/texts for those of you who know me personally. 😀
  5. I struggle with making lists. I really do.
  6. I’m not the most organized person. And one of those unfinished projects mentioned in fact 2 is cleaning my room. 😛
  7. I just finished completing my Thor costume for church tomorrow night. Woo-hoo!!!! 😀

Iron Man, Masks, and Tax-Free Weekend Shopping

I apologize for the lack of regular posts the last few weeks (especially Bible Trivia and Superhero Sunday) and hope you’re hanging in there. 🙂

If you didn’t already know, this weekend is tax-free weekend. Which means most of the outlet malls are packed.

Guess where we were yesterday.

Yep. The outlet malls.

We stopped into the Disney store to look at their Marvel things (which was actually slightly disappointing) and my dad pointed out a few Iron Man masks.

Now, is it just me (and keep in mind that I’ve only seen him in The Avengers) or does Stark’s personality seem to change a little when he’s in his suit. He seems more eager to crack jokes and be the funny guy when he’s just himself. When he’s in his suit, sure, he has a few funny moments, but it seems like he’s more focused and serious. Like he doesn’t need to be funny anymore.

We all use masks. Maybe not literally, but we all have labels that seem to define us and acts that we put up to make people think that we’re something we’re not. Some of those masks are harmful to us; other masks are harmful to other people.

God wants us to be who He made us, not who other people want us to be or who we want other people to think we are. He wants you to be… you.

So take off your mask and be the person God wants you to be!

After Buckling My Seat Belt

I feel really old right now. And excited. And nervous.

I can now legally drive.

WHAAATTT?????

As long as I have an adult in the car with me. And my learner’s permit.

I know, I’ll probably have trouble reaching the pedals. I know, I’ll probably have trouble seeing over the steering wheel. (Maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit… but not much) I know, I’ll probably have trouble breathing the first time I get behind the wheel. The first time I turn the key in the ignition. The first time I put my foot on the gas pedal. And whatever else I have to do. All after buckling my seat belt. Always.

But I’m excited. I’ll be able to go places myself. As soon as I get my own car. I’ll be able to… do I don’t know what. Whatever God wants me to do. With a car. While driving.

Stop laughing.

I know I’m rambling, so I’ll just stop.

Post summary: I got my learner’s permit. Yeah.

I Need A Mattress

The title basically says it all. I’m looking for ideas for a futuristic bed/mattress for my story. It shouldn’t be too elaborate, since I need it for my army headquarters. For a HUGE army. 😉 Please let me know if you have ideas!

I’m Back!

If you’ve been wondering about the lack of post the past week, I apologize. I have been at my grandparents’ house, while my computer has been at our house. And with a non-smart phone (aka a dumb phone) I have not been able to post. As I missed Superhero Sunday, I’ll be posting it today, instead. 😉

The Flaming Arrows

In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

-Ephesians 6:16

So what are the fiery arrows of the devil?

Temptations.

I talked quite a bit about temptation in another post, but after yesterday’s post, with faith as our shield, I thought it would be nice to add a little to our allegory-ish thing with the fiery arrows of temptation.

When you think Marvel, “the shield” normally makes you think of Captain America’s shield (or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D…), and “arrows” normally make you think of Hawkeye. (Quick note: Everything I know about Hawkeye comes from watching the Avengers, and my friends talking about him. So… don’t judge.)

So, when Hawkeye shoots one of his explosive arrows, what normally happens afterwards?hawkeye1

Yep. Ka-poof. That’s what happens when we give in to temptation. Now, maybe it doesn’t get that bad, but consequences always follow sin. Even if it doesn’t seem like anyone will ever find out.

So use your shield of faith to block the arrows of temptation. Cuz the devil won’t mind if you blow up.

If you want to read more about temptation, check out my previous post about it.

The Shield of Faith

In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

-Ephesians 6:16

With our faith, we can block the flaming arrows of the enemy, like a shield. Paul was probably thinking about a Roman shield, kind of like this one:

romanshield

Maybe. The Roman’s shields were made out of wood, but they were covered in leather so they wouldn’t catch on fire, which was a big part of their battles. (Thank you, Pastor Tim from Wayside!)

When we think of shields, we normally think of something more like this:

CaptainAmericasShield

Sorry, I couldn’t help it… But, although this shield would definitely stand up pretty good to some flaming arrows (now there’s an idea, Marvel!), it doesn’t provide quite as much full-body protection. See what I mean?

HidingCaptain

The stronger your faith is, the better your shield will be, and the better you’ll be able to guard yourself against the devil’s flaming arrows of temptation. Which just might be mentioned in the next post.

(I can’t help it… which shield would you rather have? Why?)
