The Shield of Faith

In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

-Ephesians 6:16

With our faith, we can block the flaming arrows of the enemy, like a shield. Paul was probably thinking about a Roman shield, kind of like this one:

romanshield

Maybe. The Roman’s shields were made out of wood, but they were covered in leather so they wouldn’t catch on fire, which was a big part of their battles. (Thank you, Pastor Tim from Wayside!)

When we think of shields, we normally think of something more like this:

CaptainAmericasShield

Sorry, I couldn’t help it… But, although this shield would definitely stand up pretty good to some flaming arrows (now there’s an idea, Marvel!), it doesn’t provide quite as much full-body protection. See what I mean?

The stronger your faith is, the better your shield will be, and the better you’ll be able to guard yourself against the devil’s flaming arrows of temptation. Which just might be mentioned in the next post.

(I can’t help it… which shield would you rather have? Why?)

      1. Cap’s shield is halfway between a Greek hoplon and a buckler. It’s like what the Macedonians used…
I’m stealing your idea, Proverbs31teen! *grins maniacally* (Also, Cap is so adorable in that scene… and his expression when he peeks out from behind the shield is so funny. X-P THE OTHER GIRL IS EVIL!!!! SHE IS MORE EVIL THAN RED SKULL! HOW DARE SHE TRY AND BREAK UP THE MOST ADORABLE SHIP EVER?!)

      2. Stop wiggling your eyebrows. Makes you look like Tony. 😛
The flaming arrows one, I think. 😛 But I’m also thinking of making a replica of Cap’s shield to take to class in case of battle reenactions. It would be especially funny if the teacher was to see me holding the shield instead of a notebook 😛 We normally use them as shields. But it would be funny X-D
The other day, I pretended to be the teacher. X-P It was funny. The teacher pretended to be a student. Everyone was random. X-P

      3. I get that. It may have to wait until summer, or spring break, unless you’ll have a chance during winter break. If you want, I can brainstorm ideas for it, like rules and blogging schedules or whatever.

      6. That would be awesome, but no… 😉 Time travel confuses me with duplicates of yourself and all that… Hawkeye’s awesome, honestly I based a character off him… and I kind of want to take archery lessons… 😀

      7. Hmm… we could start it with it just being the group of us, gathering to use our superpowers against the forces of evil, and then we could later be invited to a special school for superheroes… 😉

      8. I had a complete freak out moment the night before my seventeenth birthday (as in, night before last 😛 ) and I got some awesome encouragement from my parents. 😀 Although I’m not sure my mom agreed when my dad mentioned going to Russia and becoming a spy as a college alternative…

      9. I know, it would be!! 😀 I’ve already come up with a couple Russian names for me…
That. Is. So. Scary. And I only have three more years, and then I’ll have to change my blog name, or pass it down to a younger friend. Which would be neat. Thanks!!! 😀
