Light and Shadows

Among many of the writers I know, there’s a sort of inside joke that we enjoy causing the characters in our stories pain, and that we take a sadistic pleasure in their suffering. This, for the most part, is not true. While many of us do enjoy causing trouble for our characters, the real reason is that we love to see them grow. We don’t enjoy their suffering; we enjoy seeing where their suffering leads and how they mature because of it.

So it is with God, the Great Author of the greatest story ever told, a story that is still being written today. He does not take pleasure in seeing us suffer through our trials, but He knows that the struggles are necessary in order for us to mature.
