Wisdom from Diversecity

These are some quotes I found on tobyMac’s website, on the About Diversecity page. The names in parentheses are the band members. Enjoy!

He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” -Luke 10:27 (Tim “Timmy Rose” Rosenau)

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven!” -Matthew 5:16 Don’t be afraid to “LET” your light shine so that God can be glorified through you. At your job, let it shine, at home, let it shine. In your marriage or friendships, let it shine! So … SHINE! (Byron “Mr. Talkbox” Chambers)

Time & Eternity Are Connected…: It’s like driving down a long road and then {BAM} it changes names. Are you in good hands? (That’s a Maj original so don’t bite.) (DJ Maj)

Great moments are born from great opportunities, so seize every opportunity! (Brian “da Bomb” Haley)

Outside of a relationship with Jesus, everything loses its luster after a while. He is the only inexhaustible treasure. (Nirva “Nirvessence Dorsaint Ready)

Be honest. Say what you mean and mean what you say because half-truths and flattery eventually catch up to you. (Dave Wyatt aka dDubb)

I’ve always loved 1 Timothy 4:12- “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” I think the young are overlooked a lot, but this verse talks about how they can be an example in certain aspects. (Gabe Real)

You are as beautiful as your thoughts. -Maurice White (Toddiefunk)

Pictures of Typhoon Haiyan’s Aftermath (From Hillongos to Tacloban)

Please pray for the Philippines!

Last Saturday, November 16, 2013, two of my friends back in college, Mr. Kevin Castro and Mr. Jashin Rosal went to Tacloban together with their other officemates for relief operations. Just hours ago, Kevin shared to us the pictures they got from the selected places from Hillongos to Tacloban.

I cannot help not to get emotional while looking at the pictures. I’ve seen what happened to Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro City a day after typhoon Washi destroyed the place, and I could really tell just by looking at the pictures that the devastation brought by typhoon Haiyan was really way too far more destructive than any other typhoons we encountered. Kevin also said that the destruction was 10 times greater than what happened to Iligan and Cagayan de oro.

With Kevin’s permission, Here are some of the pictures he took on his way from Hillongos to Tacloban.

Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

-1 Timothy 5:8

Whoa. Harsh.

I had to read this verse twice. Someone who doesn’t provide for their relatives is worse than an unbeliever??? That seems really, I don’t know… harsh.

But family really is important. This verse states that people who don’t provide for their relatives, especially for their own household, have denied the faith.

Take care of your family!!!

And, of course, a song about family. Yes, it’s from tobyMac.

And the story behind the song…

He got it right.

The Empty Illusion of Life

Sonshine Seeker

The Empty Illusion of Life.
Life says “You can do it!”
Reality says ” I can’t. I’m consumed. I’m overwhelmed. I’m tired.”
God says “Pay attention!…for you are my servant. I, The Lord, made you, and I will not forget to help you.” Isaiah 44:21. On this earth, only 2 things are eternal- The Word of God and the souls of men. “The grass withers, and the flowers fade, but The Word of God stands forever.” Isa. 40:8. “People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God” Matt.4:4. “God blesses those who relize their need for Him”Matt.5:3. “Your Heavenly Father already knows all your needs and He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.” Don’t focus on the illusion. Instead, SEE JESUS. I’m praying for you.

The Lord’s Temple: Part 2

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

-1 Corinthians 3:16

Yes, that’s the same verse from yesterday. 😉

So, continuing from yesterday and building off the challenge. How do we make our “temples” clean like Hotel Room #1? Obviously, it’s kind of hard to actually bake some cookies for God, or at least to get them to Him.

One way to do this is obviously to try and keep from sinning. Ask God to help you keep your temple pure and clean from sin. He’ll help you.

Another way is to stay healthy. One way to do this is to eat healthier, (obviously, but still…) and to exercise. Yes, my current “exercise program consists of running around the yard with the dog just about every day and horseback riding once a week, although I do get to play the occassional tiring game of hide-and-go-seek/tag. Those little kids always beat me! 🙂

Challenge: Same as part one. But maybe you should try moving the cookies a little farther away from you this time, so you don’t eat all of God’s cookies.

The Lord’s Temple: Part 1

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

-1 Corinthians 3:16

That’s kind of scary. God’s Holy Spirit lives in us! That means we might want to keep his “temple” nice, right? I mean, God is living in you!

Let’s use an analogy. Close your eyes and imagine this. Wait, then you won’t be able to read. Ha-ha. Never mind. Let’s just imagine two hotel rooms.

Hotel Room #1: Beautiful. Clean. White sheets on the bed. Extra soap and shampoo in the bathroom. A plate of (fresh) cookies sitting on the nightstand. And a beautiful view of the ocean. Or the mountains. Or whatever you think would be a beautiful hotel-room view.

Hotel Room #2: Cramped. Dirty. Sheets have stains on them. A pile of dirty towels in the bathroom. And a couple of dead cockroaches in one of the corners. And a dead spider on the pillow.

Ugh. I think that’s enough. So, if God’s staying in your “temple”, which room would you rather be like: Hotel Room #1 or Hotel Room #2? And I hope you say Hotel Room #1.

Challenge: Make an effort to make your “temple” like Hotel Room #1. (More about this tomorrow) Feel free to bake God some cookies.

A Text Message From a Friend

I thought this text message I got from a friend of mine was worth posting. Enjoy!

“‘Do not look on his appearance… For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.'”

-1 Samuel 16:7

How is your heart? We tend to spend much more time, energy, and money on the outside. What good is a beautiful exterior to a black and dying soul?
